Today, the race to acquire and incorporate this emerging technology has primarily been driven by the market. Although its utilization is growing, robotic surgery has already proven to be of great value, particularly in areas inaccessible to conventional laparoscopic procedures. It is a challenge for robotic systems to replace conventional laparoscopic instruments in less technically demanding procedures. A medical graduate from the prestigious Armed Forces Medical College, Pune. He did his masters in surgery from Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi in 1988 and went to the UK for higher surgical training in GI surgery.
