Nearly 50% of patients with newly diagnosed liver cirrhosis have accompanying varices; new varices are developed every year. The pre-existing varices worsen in 7% of patients, and first, bleeding occurs in 12% of patients each year. Alcohol consumption is a risk factor for variceal bleeding. Balloon tamponade, balloon-occluded retrograde transvenous obliteration, TIPS, and surgical treatment are some of the options for managing Severe Variceal bleed.
