The affected patients are prone to dehydration, malnutrition, and aspiration pneumonia. Medical nutrition therapy is an essential part of clinical care. About 20% of stroke patients have been found to be malnourished on admission. If these patients cannot take food or fluids orally, they should receive enteral feeding using nasogastric, nasoduodenal, or PEG tube. Undernourished stroke patients need micronutrient supplement combinations. Reduced levels of consciousness, poor oral hygiene, reduced mobility, weakness can affect food intake. Learn all about the management of nutrition in stroke patients in this course designed by Medvarsity and Dosily.
