Cachexia is the only abnormal finding in cancer patients who die with this diagnosis. The prevalence of malnutrition is more significant in children and elderly patients with solid tumours and patients with advanced cancer. Mal-absorption can be probably infrequent in patients with advanced cancer and occurs in patients with apparent jaundice, pancreatic tumours and can be transitory after radiation or chemotherapy. Upper Gastrointestinal cancers require a special diet and nutrition which can be digested and absorbed in a non-problematic way. Adequate nutrition can help in reducing the tolerance to treatment and in some cases, can increase both the length and the quality of survival. Nutritional support is very important for cancer patients which can be attained by altering the metabolic and nutritional requirements.
