The prevalence of malnutrition is greater in children and elderly patients with solid tumors, and in patients with advanced cancer. Mal-absorption can be probably infrequent in patients with advanced cancer and occurs in patients with obvious jaundice, pancreatic tumors and can be transitory after radiation or chemotherapy. Adequate nutrition can help in reducing the tolerance to treatment and in some cases can increase both the length and the quality of survival.
