What you'll learn

COVID-19 is a respiratory disease and has the potential to cause acute respiratory distress in severely affected patients. Such patients may require immediate procedures such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). The WHO has categorized cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) as an aerosol-generating procedure requiring wearing respirator masks and other personal protective equipment (PPE). Delaying chest compressions and defibrillation for up to several minutes while the HCWs don their protective equipment (PPE) might reduce the likelihood of patient survival. Such emergencies warrant special precautions for performing CPR while avoiding the spread of infections to the HCWs. This course discusses in detail the special precautions required in case of emergencies.
