What you'll learn

Hypertension is one of the most important comorbidities of diabetes, contributing significantly to death and disability and leads to macrovascular and microvascular complications. When assessing the medical priorities for patients with diabetes, treating hypertension should be a primary consideration. read more »»

Hypertension occurs twice as common in diabetics than in comparable nondiabetics. Patients with both disorders have a markedly higher risk for premature microvascular and macrovascular complications. Hypertension and diabetes frequently occur in the same individuals in clinical practice. Moreover, the presence of hypertension does increase the risk of new-onset diabetes, as well as diabetes, which does promote the development of hypertension. Whatever the case, the concomitant presence of these conditions confers a high risk of major cardiovascular complications and promotes the use of integrated pharmacological interventions, aimed at achieving the recommended therapeutic targets. While the benefits of lowering abnormal fasting glucose levels in patients with hypertension and diabetes have been consistently demonstrated, the blood pressure (BP) targets to be achieved to get a benefit in patients with diabetes have been recently reconsidered. Diabetes and high blood pressure occur together so frequently that they are officially considered to be “comorbidities” (diseases likely to be present in the same patient). This is an introductory beginner level course that mainly focuses on the management of hypertension in diabetic patients. This course gives you an evidence-based introduction, management, and so on.

As most of the medical professionals are interested in clinical practice and encounter diabetic patients with co-morbid conditions, this course gives an insight into how a diabetic patient with hypertension can be actually managed in a clinical setup.
