One of the important growth indexes is the body mass index, which tells us whether a person is, underweight, overweight, or obese. The methods used to measure body composition and the various methods of laboratory assessment of nutritional status, along with dietary assessment, have also been described in the course. Every individual requires different quantities of nutrients. It is important to assess the nutritional status of the individual in order to develop a nutritional plan to treat malnutrition and acute diseases and to prevent chronic diseases.

This course is useful for healthcare professionals such as physicians, nurses, nutritionists, dieticians, and physicians practicing alternative medicine (AYUSH), such as homeopathy, Ayurveda, and yoga. The course guides the healthcare professional in the methods to assess the nutritional status of an individual and prescribe corrective measures.
