What you'll learn
Hypertension is the most commonly encountered medical problem during pregnancy, complicating 2-3% of pregnancies either during early stages, partum, or post-partum. Chronic hypertension is a long-term blood pressure that is elevated and precedes pregnancy, is diagnosed within the 1st 20 weeks of pregnancy, or does not resolve by the 12-week post-partum checkup. Hypertension can always be dangerous for both the mother and the fetus though it does not cause severe problems for some women. Women with chronic or pre-existing hypertension are more likely to have certain complications during pregnancy than those with normal blood pressure. In critical cases, the mother develops preeclampsia-or “toxemia of pregnancy,” leading to adverse effects in the newborn. Take this course on “Hypertensive disorders in pregnancy” designed by Dosily and Medvarsity to better understand and upgrade your knowledge to the next level.
