Causes of peptic ulcers have been highlighted in this such as Helicobacter pylori, increase acidity caused by smoking, alcohol, and the damage to gastric mucosa caused by Non-steroidal anti-Inflammatory agents. When a patient presents with peritonitis features such as guarding and rigidity, they may be in shock also. Few scoring systems have been given which will detect the severity of peritonitis and can predict mortality and morbidity also. Diagnosis should be made early based on clinical symptoms and signs.
