There are different steps involved in the diagnose Tachyarrhythmia from ECG pattern which include:
Step 1 – Analyze the heart rate
Step 2 – Analyze the rhythm
Step 3 – Check the width of the QRS complex
Step 4 – Check the morphology of P wave
Step 5 – Determine PR interval and PR ratio
Step 6 – Check if the onset of palpitations is gradual or abrupt

Tachyarrhythmias are classified into different types based on their anatomic location of origin or width of the QRS complex. Depending on the actual location, tachyarrhythmias are classified into two types one is Supraventricular ectopic beats and the other is Ventricular ectopic beats.

Supraventricular tachyarrhythmias are divided into two categories- atrial and atrioventricular (AV) junction tachyarrhythmia. Ventricular tachyarrhythmias are further classified into:

  • Monomorphic ventricular tachycardia
  • Polymorphic ventricular tachycardia
  • Ventricular fibrillation
  • Accelerated idio-ventricular tachycardia
  • Ventricular Flutter

It is important for every person working in the critical care department, emergency department, and in cardiology ward to differentiate various kinds of tachyarrhythmias so that appropriate management can be given to the patients.
