Key concepts covered include:

By the end of this course, you will be able to understand:

  • To realize the invaluable need for a detailed understanding of the complexity of the cervical spine, appreciating how motor control and restoration to a neutral lordotic curve is essential for pain relief & optimal return to function.
  • The loss of the cervical lordosis and craniovertebral kyphosis results in segmental overload, muscle imbalances, and persistent pain and dysfunction. Prescriptive rehabilitation should be targeted at restoring optimal curves for best outcomes.

What you'll learn

A cross-sectional study suggested that only 6% of individuals who suffered from neck pain in the previous year were free of recurrence. The use of smartphones and sustained postures in the workplace and at the computer contributes to the disturbing poor outcomes from medical interventions. read more »»

The cervical spine relies on both passive as well as dynamic stability mechanisms for optimal form and force closure, essential to maintain a neutral spine for optimal loading of the cervical discs and facet joints. Loss of the lordotic curve overloads the many nociceptive structures in the cervical region.

This talk investigates possible causes of persistent neck pain and dysfunction, focusing on the importance of the neutral zone & control of the neutral position of the cervical spine. Biomechanics of the cranio-vertebral region and the consequences of curve reversal are discussed, as are the links between cervical, shoulder & scapular dysfunction. Exercises to improve timing & motor control of deep segmental muscles, progressing into functional eccentric training are described. This management is aimed at improving your outcomes with patients with neck pain and dysfunction.
