Status epilepticus (SE) is a typical medical emergency associated with significant morbidity and mortality. It is defined as a continuous seizure lasting >30 min, or two or more seizures without full recovery of consciousness between any of them. Recent guidelines suggested that any seizure that lasts >5 min probably needs to be treated as SE. Various studies reported that mortality of SE varies from 3-50%, refractory SE may lead to death in over 76% of elderly cases.read more »»
