About the Webinar

Telegenomics is the application of telemedicine for genetic counselling (GC). It has considerable growth potential in India today, with increasing awareness of preventive medicine and incorporation of telehealth. Add to this the widespread availability of good connectivity, making remote genetic counselling eminently doable.

This India-centric webinar will give you an overview of the necessity and importance of telegenetic counselling. In addition to reviewing relevant literature in this ultra-niche area, Prof. K. Ganapathy, brings a holistic view to the matter based on his 22 years of personal experience in the field of telehealth in India and 45 years as a full time clinician.

Prof. Ganapathy will demonstrate that any medical counselling that can be accomplished in an in-person consultation can be achieved in a virtual session too. Following an overview of medical genetics in India and a global survey of genetic counselling, the components of GC and clinical indications for GC will be highlighted with advantages of telegenomics for the clinician, the patient and the family.

The necessity to be future-ready in this changing world of “the new normal”, the demand for contactless medicine is on the rise. More importantly, with the proliferation of collection centres there will be access to genomic testing across the length and breadth of India. Therefore, virtually extending the reach of limited city-based genetic counsellors is the only doable solution in identifying and managing diseases with a genetic basis.
