What you'll learn

Doppler Ultrasound has become one of the essential diagnostic aids in the field of medicine due to increased abnormalities and defects in the organs. It uses high-frequency sound waves to capture live images from the body on to the monitor. It is also called sonography. The gallbladder is a pear-shaped organ that stores bile and is located under the liver on the right side of the abdomen. Gallbladder ultrasounds are used to diagnose several conditions.

Ultrasound is used to test for gallstones, which are hardened deposits in bile that can cause nausea and abdominal pain along with back and shoulder pain. Another condition potentially requiring a gallbladder ultrasound is cholecystitis, where the gallbladder becomes inflamed or infected. This often results from gallstones obstructing a tube that moves bile from the gallbladder.

Other conditions a gallbladder ultrasound is conducted for include: gallbladder cancer, gallbladder empyema, gallbladder polyps, porcelain gallbladder, gallbladder perforation, upper right abdominal pain of unknown reason. This module teaches you how to prepare for and perform an ultrasound examination of the gallbladder. Including both Learn and Test modes, the online simulator offers three different scan scenarios, including regular and pathological cases, of the gallbladder and surrounding structures.
