Radiography is a booming branch in medical science which enables clinicians to study the structures internally with devices which work with electricity, rays and sound waves. It is the basic tool in clinical medicine and dentistry which can be used for diagnosis and treatment purposes.

Radiographic technologists assist in the diagnosis and management of human illness by producing diagnostic images (also called radiographs or X-rays) of relevant patient anatomy. They produce images by utilizing rays like X- rays, gamma rays, or similar ionizing and non ionizing radiation to view the internal structures in the body. During first two decades, radiography was only to diagnose the diseases, fractures during world war.

Initially conventional radiographic techniques with only few planes have been introduced but as the time advanced, newer and more sophisticated techniques have been developed which are enabling the clinicians and radiologists to study deeper into the structures of the body.The core responsibility of a radiologic technologist is the taking of optimal radiographic images suitable for diagnostic purposes, in order to ensure the patient obtains the full benefit of the examination. It is therefore critical to analyse each X-ray image thoroughly, using a step-by-step process, and take corrective action if necessary, in order to produce an optimal image.

The anatomy of the bones of the skull and face is complex, and it is important to understand these structures in order to obtain optimal radiographic projections.
