What you'll learn

ECG is one of the most commonly used diagnostic tool and still considered as a gold standard investigation which is often the first diagnostic test performed for detecting heart abnormalities. It also measures the hearts electrical function. 12 lead ECG has numerous potential uses. It is a representation of hearts electrical activity during depolarization and repolarization recorded form the 12 electrodes sticked on to the body at different places and at the same time. read more »»

It is performed while is patient is still lying and 12 electrodes are attached your chest, arms, and legs at the same time. This enables to localize the pathology to a specific site. It helps in non invasive diagnosis of arrhythmias and conduction disturbances, and serves as a only marker for the presence of heart disease. An electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG) is a method to graphically display the electric current generated by the heart muscle during a heartbeat. There are differen types of EKG to check for various cardiac and pulmonary conditions. They include Cardiopulmonary exercise test (CPET), Exercise EKG (stress test), Holter monitor, Resting 12-lead EKG and Signal-averaged electrocardiogram.

This can be recorded even in remote areas as this is portable and accurately records all details. Knowledge on ECG and EKG is very essential for health care professionals in initial diagnosis and prognostic diagnosis of some of the cardiac abnormalities in emergency or primary care ward. Therefore, this module teaches you how to prepare for and record a 12-lead ECG. The interactive simulator lets you learn and practice how to record an electrocardiogram since online simulations offer a safe practice environment and also enable you to try out procedures that you might not otherwise experience.
